Media Reflection

Overall I realized that media has played and impacted my life tremendously over the past years. It really opened my eyes to the effects on young people from social media. Before this year I never would’ve been able to analyze commercials and ads the way I can now. Also my favorite documentary we watched was MissRepresentation because it showed me how little respect women have in the media. We are faced at a young age to accept hidden messages from social media telling us we need to be pretty to be successful. I realized how much time media takes up from my life. I felt like I had to rely on social media to keep up with my friends daily life and just basic news.

As I write this reflection I am asking myself, can I live without media? And my answer to that is yes. I believe that if we lived without media our world would be completely different. Without media our lives would be at a much slower pace. We would better connect with our environment and would be more content with what they already have because they have nothing to compare themselves to. Currently I think the most negative part of media is a constant feeling of desire. As the media portrays unrealistic lifestyles, followers are in a constant state of jealousy. When they see what they can’t have, they grow less and less content with their own lives.
