Midrift's and Mook's Today

In the film Merchants of Cool they explain to us what a midriff and a mook is. The two are visually opposites of one another. A midriff is a girl who tries to look older and act more mature for her age. Whereas a mook is a boy stuck in boyhood and could care less of what others thought of him. Despite the fact that the film is old the concepts can still be applied to today's generation. It isn't anything out of the ordinary to scroll through social media and find 13 year old girls dressing and acting like they are 20, but then see foolish boys posting dumb videos of them and their friends. Although this is not true for all teens, with so much of it being displayed for the world to see online most teens can not help but follow the trends set by popular influencers. 

Take Loren Gray for example. She is the same age as me, 16, and has 16.5 million followers...the perfect representation of today's midriff. She uses makeup to make herself look older and dresses in a way that suggest she's older than 16. Because she keeps up her rep of looking older her 16.5 million followers are inspired and want to do the same. Many of which are teenage girls. 

Ultimately, media hasn't changed much from then up to now. One of the only major differences now is that with our technology the amount of time it takes to share and get these facades trending is probably half the time it took 10 years ago. Resulting in the birth of more midriffs and mooks.
